Many people want to purchase an electric boat, so they can enjoy some time on the water without worrying about working with fuel. But are electric boats slower than their fuel-powered counterparts? How fast can electric boats go?
Electric boats can typically go from 17 mph – 88.61 mph. The Jaguar V20 racing boat is currently the fastest electric boat with a top speed record of 88.61 mph. Yet, most electric boats are made for cruising rather than racing intents, so the average speed falls below 40 mph for most electric boats.
Now that you know how fast electric boats can go and what the fastest electric boat is called, you are likely wondering how fast other boats can go. Let’s look at 9 examples of electric boats and compare their speeds and prices.
Boat | Speed | Range (nautical miles) | Price |

Electric boats are slower vessels compared to their gas (or diesel) counterparts because they are a newer addition to the market and therefore have not yet had the chance to prove their mettle truly. So, we just have to wait for some more time to see the marvels of what electric boats can do in the coming years.
Another thing to keep in mind is electric boats aren’t inexpensive compared to their counterparts. Because electric boats are an emerging and developing technology, they tend to be more expensive than their gas-powered counterparts. This is often because of the high cost of batteries.

A Final Note On Electric Boats
Most boats are not made for speed, but they are made to be luxury. All of the boats that have been talked about are luxurious, but some are more expensive and luxurious than others. They can be customized to a certain point, but how many customizations can be made varies on the boat and the company.
Although most of the boats that are available to the public don’t have high top speeds, you won’t feel like you are moving at a snail’s pace when you are on this boat. Instead, you will be more focused on the view around you and having fun with your friends and family.
Most electric boats are not very fast, partially because the technology is still new, and companies have not had time to increase the speed of their electric boats.
If you want to purchase a boat that goes faster than those on this list, you will have to get a speed boat with a gas motor or a racing boat that isn’t powered by electricity.
Overall, electric boats can’t be driven at high speeds, and the slower you drive your boat, the longer the battery will last. Although they aren’t made for speed, they are great for the environment and will ensure that you can enjoy the marine life around you while on the water, as the marine life won’t be heavily disturbed as your boat drives by because the engine is quiet and most electric boats don’t cause large waves to appear behind it.
If you want to purchase a boat but aren’t worried about speed, you should definitely check out electric boats. Most electric boats are large enough to hold 3-8 people so that you can have quite a few of your friends on your boat with you.
